My name is Alissa (she/her/hers). I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor dedicated to providing affirming, culturally responsive, and strengths-based care—especially for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families.

As the parent of a transgender teen, I’ve witnessed firsthand how isolating it can be to live in a world that often stigmatizes and invalidates queer and trans identities. This experience has deepened my empathy and strengthened my commitment to providing inclusive care that supports authenticity and meaningful connection for every client. I believe in co-creating a space where clients feel seen, respected, and empowered—where we can unpack shame, embrace intersectionality, and cultivate self-acceptance.

I earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from National University. I hold certifications in LGBTQ-Affirmative CBT through the Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative and Integrating Mindfulness into Professional Service through The Whole Person Center.

I have experience supporting adolescents, individuals, and families navigating a range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, gender dysphoria, and the lasting effects of trauma—such as sexual trauma, religious trauma, relational trauma, and adverse childhood experiences. My personal philosophy is to live with cultural humility and curiosity, grounded in the spirit of aloha and deep reverence for the stories people carry.

I offer therapy via telehealth or in person at my office near Hillcrest. I can bill the following insurance companies: Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross, and I can provide Superbills to those with a PPO. I look forward to hearing from you!
